Pacific Skyways goal is to provide students with the flight skills, knowledge, and experience to be safe, confident, adventurous pilots. We offer training for complete novices and advanced students looking to improve their skills and explore new challenges.

In this two day course we'll introduce you to the basics of paragliding. While emphasizing safety and fun, we'll teach you how to set-up, inflate, and control the wing. On the training hill you will learn the basics of launching and landing. With good conditions, we will guide you through your first flights!

At the conclusion of this course, you may take the P1 rating exam. Rating filing fee and full USHPA membership not included in course fee.

This course, which begins where the Introductory course ends, will teach you everything you need to fly on your own without supervision. Extensive on-the-hill training is supplemented by comprehensive ground schooling covering topics including: aviation rules, weather, equipment, risk assessment and risk management. Students are encouraged to set their own pace—spending as many days training as needed to become confident solo pilots. We conclude with the P2 rating exam.

Course fees include all of the following:
  • Training equipment
  • Training materials
  • The Art of Paragliding paragliding manual
  • Full USHPA membership
  • Rating filing fees
  • Membership in local flying clubs
  • Unlimited training days within a 6 month period

To progress from P2 to the advanced P3 and P4 ratings, you need to gain experience by flying different sites and in different conditions. In Northern California and the Bay Area we have coastal ridge soaring sites, in-land foothill sites, and large-mountain thermal sites. Through-out the flying season Pacific Skyways leads trips and clinics to a variety of sites throughout California. As Pacific Skyways students you are invited to join us for guided advanced flying so that you can build the skills needed for your advanced ratings.

When you are ready for your advanced ratings, Pacific Skyways will administer your P3 and P4 exams at no charge.

Safety-In-Flight clinics are one of the best ways to build confidence in your flying and to learn how to manage your wing in rough conditions. In these clinics, you will tow-launch your paraglider to altitude above a lake in calm and controlled conditions. Under the expert guidance of a safety instructor you will simulate rough flying conditions and learn how to manage and control your glider. Safety-in-Flight clinics are incredibly fun, build confidence, and give you the skills to stay safe in a variety flying conditions.
